Ep. 020 Building Trust with Your Body Around Food Again
Healing your relationship with food and yourself means radically changing the way you approach your health and fitness. It's no longer about trying to stay as lean as possible or extreme measures to change your body, it's about learning how to love and accept yourself no matter what the circumstances are.
In this episode of Your Highest Self, we dive into 3 ways to heal your relationship with food so you can trust yourself again.
The number one mindset shift that needs to happen in order to heal your relationship with food Is letting go of this scarcity mindset. You need to be okay with the idea that you don’t need to be the leanest person in the room. A smaller you does NOT make a more worthy you.
Step 1, you need to stop counting macros or come off of your dieting plan. I want you to take this next day as a non counting day and don’t track your food. I know it seems scary and you’re afraid you’re going to fail, but the only way we get better at something is if we continue to try. Trust me, you’ll start to learn to trust your body again and you’ll be able to just have a bit of that tasty treat and put the rest away or not the entire bag of popcorn. It will happen, but not until you start trying! If you need some structure, go ahead and download my #143METHOD EBOOK .
Step 2, check in with yourself. I suggest setting two alarms- one mid morning (10am) and one mid day (2pm). When you set these two alarms, ask yourself these 3 questions: 1) How do I feel right now? 2) What’s my hunger like right now, on a scale from 1 to 10? 3) How does my body feel right now? These three questions allow you to check in with yourself and base your food intake off how you’re feeling not an arbitrary number. Your goal when eating is to eat to 80% full- this is where the magic happens.
Step 3, is to take up a meditation practice. This is such an important component and the best way to build mindfulness around what you’re eating, is to meditate. This is the practice of being still with my thoughts. The reason you feel like you need food is because you are having thoughts about needing food. Start with 5 minutes a day and then work to increase to 10 minutes a day. It really is self love and self care.
