Ep. 021 How This Foodie Gave Up Dieting & Found Self Love
Are you a foodie who thinks that you can never lose weight because you love food so much? In this episode, we are talking to Nora who is an OBGYN, self proclaimed foodie and mom. Her first entry into dieting was through a nutritional shake and meal supplement company. They were having a 5-week weight loss challenge and with her disciplined background she went all in.
The pattern would go > restrict for 5 weeks & lose weight > eat whatever she wanted & gained all the weight back > then decide to do the next challenge. After a year and a half she was tired of the shakes but then developed a really bad sugar craving, couldn't stop emotional eating & no longer fit into any of her clothes. When she came to me for help, she was at the point where dieting was no longer working and she wanted to learn how to just have a normal attitude about food.
When she initially started dieting, it was through these challenges and using these shakes. About a year into this cycle, Nora decided she was done with the ups and downs. Before this dieting craze, Nora didn’t have a huge issue with food, but this whole thing only highlighted any underlying issues that were there before.
When I first started working with Nora, she was hell bent on losing 20 pounds in 6 weeks. As she says, I basically told her that it wasn’t going to happen. I told her the issue wasn’t a food issue, it was a self-love issue (sound familiar?!). It took her some time to come around to joining Mindset Makeover Academy, but she eventually reached out to me and said she wanted to do it.
Nora set herself up for success by being open to my training and lessons and told herself that she was going to do whatever I recommended. This openness allowed her make real change! She was able to discover that she was putting tons of self worth into external values. This is what was causing her to be so upset!
