Ep.010 We Self Sabotage to Self Protect (& 3 ways to conquer it)

The inspiration behind this episode is my own journey and how I realized in the last few months that I've been self sabotaging myself in small ways. In the episode, I discuss, how self sabotage was showing up in my life and what I realized it was protecting me from, why we stay stuck in the same loops, and the 3 step process I created to conquer it.

It can be really frustrating to struggle with the same problems over and over again. For me, that looked like the constant battle I have in my brain about making decisions. Honestly, I took so long to start this podcast.

At the same time, I came across a video of @mastinkipp who has an incredible book if you haven't read it already- it’s about overcoming trauma, and he shared this concept- self sabotage is actually self protection. So the universe was REALLY speaking to me and making me understand this concept!

So I got curious about it and came to the realization that in reality, this behavior is because at a visceral level I am protecting myself.

I’m scared of failing so I don't believe in myself.

I'm scared of someone not liking me so I people please.

I'm scared of making the wrong decision so I second guess.

I'm scared of not being enough so I seek external validation.

Clearly writing out exactly HOW my self sabotaging behaviors were protecting me, allowed me to then analyze if it's actually in my benefit to continue. Which of course they are not!!!

So if you're following along & want to experience personal growth & conquer this, here are the 3 steps to do so:

  1. Write down the behaviors or patterns you're not happy with, and then identify HOW they are ultimately keeping you safe. (Like I did above)... the reason is because we can not change what we are not aware of.

  2. Re-frame each sentence into an I am/I have statement that is POSITIVE in your daily journaling, so for example I have been writing:

    1. I have strong self belief

    2. I am accepted and loved

    3. I have a strong intuition to rely on

    4. I am enough, always

  3. Pick one of your positive mantras a week, write an action statement about it & then commit to DOING IT.

    1. For example, taking the first one “I have strong self belief” > how would a person with strong self belief act? Well they would speak their mind & they would take risks! So I commit to speaking my mind and taking a risk that I would have previously been scared to take.

    2. Practice this for a whole week before moving on to the next one.
