Ep. 011 Connecting With Your Inner Child

This is a special episode for me all about your inner child! I know it may not be something you’re familiar with, but I hope you can have an open mind! I was completely new to inner child work until last year but let me tell you, it changed my world!

In this episode, I break down what exactly inner child is and some signs it may need healing, how a wounded or neglected inner child can lead to an epidemic of never feeling good enough, why I went down this spiritual path, the 2 questions that will reveal everything, and a list of ways you can start connecting with him/her today. It’s a FULL episode!

Inner child is the subconscious part of you that houses your self-esteem, body-image, family trauma, shame and secrets. Inner child work’ is work you do either by yourself or with a therapist to resolve the childhood emotions and experiences this ‘inner child’ still holds, as well as harness the joy, innocence, and confidence that were your birthright. Instead of simply looking at a symptom of your pain, you’ll go right to the core and reveal when a fear, phobia or certain life pattern first began. Really, inner child work is any form of self discovery that helps you access the child you once were, along with the experiences and emotions that child was taught to repress. The general idea of inner child work is that if you make an effort to contact, listen to and communicate with, and nurture your inner child, you can find and heal the roots of your issues as an adult.

Inner child work helps you to finally accept and feel your emotions, and to take care of the ‘child within’ and thus your adult self, too. This can look like so many different things- low self-esteem, poor body-image, mood and emotional imbalances, problems with boundaries being too rigid or too weak, problems with eating, harming yourself, being ‘false’ and wearing ‘masks’, identity problems, being a rebel/ a hoarder/ a bully/ a perennial victim or a super-achiever, intimacy problems, commitment problems, a general lack of trust in yourself and others, criminal behaviour, excessive lying, being ‘overly-responsible’ for others, being fiercely competitive and a poor loser, dependencies and addictions, a lack of genuine friends, obsessive and needy behaviour, fear of authority figures, being manipulative, being passive, or being aggressive. Once you’re able to acknowledge the need for inner work, it’s important to move forward.

Having a wounded or neglected inner child can lead to an epidemic of never feeling good enough. You can see that when you are constantly acting out of your inner child that has been neglected you will constantly be seeking validation outside of yourself. In my world, poor body image, addiction, and an addiction to overachieving is pretty typical of a bikini competitor, but not always. You must begin the process of reparenting yourself so you can grow.

In this episode, I get super personal, but if you want those details, you’ll have to listen to the episode itself!

Overall, the greatest benefit  from doing this work is being able to access repressed memories that are holding me back. This has been a game changer and I know it can be for you, too!
