Ep. 008 Are You A Victim or a Victor?
We have a juicy topic to talk about today and that is whether you are being a Victor or a Victim. It’s juicy because you can often spot it in other people but when it comes to your own development, it’s hard to see! We have 4 main points that will help you determine whether or not you are being a victor or a victim.
Let’s start with victim mentality. Victim mentality shows up as excuses, blame, and insecurity. When you are making excuses, blaming others or self, or you’re super insecure- this is victim mentality. I see this show up when I have clients who are making excuses as to why they’re not doing their workouts or sabotaging themselves. When I do see this happen, I call my clients out and ask them how it’s benefiting them.
Once you’ve figured out if you’re living with a victim mentality or can identify what areas of change need to happen, you’re ready to shift from victim to victor mentality. When you live with victor mentality, you are willing to take complete ownership over your situation. It can be difficult, especially when you’re feeling low, and even though it’s not easy, it is the best path for you to become your highest self.
Practicing excellence and having high standards for yourself is something you have to practice daily! One of my favorite ways to help maintain my high standards is with simple mantras such as “low expectations, high standards.” The thing we don’t want to do is create guilt or disappointment in ourselves or others and having high standards, but low expectations, allows for some grace. I also have a daily journaling practice. It took me a while to get on board and really begin to enjoy it. Journaling gives the opportunity to check in with yourself. You have to consciously ask yourself what you’re thinking about. The final practice I enjoy is finding 3 things each day that bring you joy! You can do it with your journaling, at the dinner table, or even while brushing your teeth.
The daily practices will help you develop a positivity bias and bring you into a more victor mentality from a victim mentality. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast episode, head over and give it a listen and let me know what you’re going to do to develop your victor mentality!
