How to Think Bigger: Vision Planning

Vision Planning is something I do at the start of every coaching program with my clients because as a coach it's important for me to know where they actually want to go. Some say it's to lose the rebound weight they gained and to stop emotional eating, but when they think about it, they really want to feel happy & create confidence to achieve their secret dream.

There are two different norths- a magnetic north and a true north. If your compass is pointed at the magnetic north, you are working toward the goals you think others want you to get to. If your compass is pointed at your true north, you are more likely to work on your secret dream. Make sure you’re checking in with yourself and making sure you’re pointed at true north.

The first thing you need to do is figure out your purpose. You need to make sure your getting direction in the correct direction. The best way I do this is to do a couple different exercises. The first exercise is to answer these two questions:

  • What does your tombstone say?

  • Write your obituary from the perspective of your child/sibling/someone of significance.

The second activity is to get really specific and clear on the details and work backwards from 5 or 10 years. Think about your career, health and wellness, and family and friends, relationships, self growth, personal development, etc.

The final thing you need to do to figure out what stories you’re telling yourself that you need to rewrite to achieve this vision. Your beliefs are the glass ceiling of your potential. Sometimes you can have a hard time seeing these things, which is where a coach comes into play.

Some of the obstacles you might face along your journey might be:

  • Imposter syndrome

  • Fear of outshining

  • Fear of not being good enough

  • Fear of success

When you step outside of your comfort zone, you will face struggle.

This episode is a great workshop model. I’d love for you to take a listen and let me know what you think.
