Authenticity Is The Way

Authenticity is one of the 6 ingredients inside the confidence formula. Learning how to harness your authentic self and letting go of who you think you’re supposed to will you bring you closer to building your confidence.

Definition of Authenticity

“not false or copied; genuine; real.” And, my favorite definition, “representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified.”

5 key ingredients of an authentic person

You are able to be  yourself. My husband always says you have to be able to be yourself and it was from him that it finally clicked for me. It really comes down to embracing your too muchness- your craziness, your weirdness and surrounding yourself with those who you can express yourself too without feeling wrong or weird. Often it's your own work you need to do in accepting yourself first.

You do the inner work.  The inner work is about creating more self-awareness. Knowing the answers you seek are all within you versus looking for it outside of yourself.

You embrace your shadow self. Your shadow self is the side of your personality that contains all the parts of yourself that you don’t want to admit to having. We cannot get rid of our shadows and we are not meant to heal them.  It looks like accepting your shadows fully leads to feeling balanced and whole. We have to let go of the shame and judgement.

You don’t require other people's approval to like yourself. Honestly you have to be able to hold healthy boundaries with others. If you are letting someone take advantage of you, you are not being true to yourself. It is going to take your energy from your confidence.

You value personal growth and development. Personal development is the work of improving your self-awareness, building your identity, and discovering and developing your talents to reach your full potential. I am a personal development junkie and you do have to be careful- there is such a thing as too much and if you’re not seeing your growth, it becomes detrimental.

This episode ties in so well with last week’s episode. If you haven’t read/listened to it, I highly recommend going back.
