This week we have a special guest! I'm honored to introduce you to Elyza, one of my OG mentees from 2018 when Mindset Makeover wasn't a thing yet and a founding member of our Mindset Makeover Community. Just before the doors to the membership opened, she decided to commit to a 90-day Journaling journey after seeing an old post of mine. Her old story was that she didn’t have follow-through and never finished what she started. Today she is 90+ days deep into her journey and she’s here to share all about it with us!

The power of journaling and what Elyza learned about herself

It was at the end of an old episode of the Your Highest Self podcast when Elyza decided to commit to a true journaling practice. For so long she didn’t actually believe that it was working, but once she started truly believing that journaling could impact her life- it truly started to! One of her other big take-aways is this idea that you believe the things you say about yourself- positively or negatively. Your words have a deep impact. She has learned that journaling has shifted her energy and it allows her to be open with herself. Once she was willing to take imperfect action, everything started coming together. Doing it even if it’s not perfect is so powerful!

Tips to start and maintain your journey

In this episode, we talk about all kinds of things that both Elyza and I have used to help us start and maintain our journaling journey.

  1. Just start- it’s not about being a perfectionist, it’s about getting your thoughts out

  2. Use intentions to help you frame your journaling

  3. Using the Create Your Purpose Journal flow, including, gratitude for what’s happening in your life, energy check, intentions (who do I need to be to reach my goals?), free flow/prompt

  4. Positive talk about getting to journal versus having to journal

  5. Seeing journaling as a zero option mentality- it’s non negotiable

  6. Give yourself grace if you forget and you don’t need to start over at day one

What it means to put in the reps

The more you put it in, the more progress you’re going to make. You gotta keep up the momentum. It’s more about keeping up the practice than it is about having a perfect journaling practice. Don’t allow that perfectionist mindset to get in the way of doing the work.
