Self-Trust, Surrendering and Letting Go

For years I toyed with the idea of surrender and how to bring it into my life. It seemed like the right thing to do when I realized that all my efforts to control and manipulate my body and life weren't working. But every time I tried, my mind would fight me about it. I didn't understand how letting go would actually give me the results I wanted when my whole life I had to work extremely hard to make anything happen for me AND on top of that I couldn't trust myself at all.

How Surrender is an Active State, Not a Passive One

For those of us that struggle with surrendering, it’s because we feel like we’re giving up or not trying hard enough. When in reality, it is an active state that allows us to let the things that meant for us to come to us and the things that are not, pass by (as they’re meant to). When you become more present through surrender, you become more aligned with your highest self. Amazingly this pulls us into the present moment. When everything we're doing, saying, and making is no longer aimed at controlling the future, at producing a certain result, we're able to drop into the present moment and experience this moment directly, as it is.

Inviting Surrender Into Your Life

So how do we actually surrender. There are a few key components that go into truly surrendering. First off, you have to know who you are. If you don’t know who you are or what you want, it’s really hard to surrender. You need clarity on your vision, purpose and goals. The second thing you absolutely need is to make the commitment to trust yourself. Would you bet on yourself? If you can’t say yes, then you are still trying to control something and showing that you don’t truly trust yourself. You will ultimately sabotage yourself.

Here are two questions you can ask yourself and invite surrender:

  • What is it like right now if I let everything be just as it is?

  • If I don’t do anything about it, what is my actual experience at this moment?

Warning: do not ask yourself these questions unless you’re really ready to surrender. If you’re not ready, you’ll try and control the answers and that’s not what it looks like to surrender. Feel this, here, now.

What's Possible For You On the Other Side of Letting Go

Surrender, at its core, is the willingness to meet life as it is, to stop fighting with or trying to change what is so, right now. No matter what the catalyst, or whether it is a moment’s surrender or a lifetime’s, the result or gift that accompanies it remains the same: relief, gratitude, grace, and sometimes even joy.

Embodying and Integrating Self-Trust Into Your Life and Business

When you have self trust, you are able to be the best advocate for yourself. When you don’t have self trust, you're trying to control everything. When you trust, you believe yourself when you put your goals out there. In your life, you know there’s going to be an ebb and flow and when you things are going well, you know the other shoe isn’t going to drop. Just keep in mind that blessings aren’t finite and that you always have the opportunity to feel good. You are worthy. In business, you are using your intuition. This is what I do with my mastermind girls- we work on trusting ourselves to make the best decisions for our own businesses.
